Oggi pubblichiamo l’intervista a Chris Ingram,promessa del rallysmo britannico,nonostante la giovanissima età (19 anni) ha un palmares invidiabile:Campione Junior britannico,riconoscimento giovane promessa britannica,Campione Renault R2 britannico e vincitore classe R2 al Wales Rally 2013 alla sua prima gara WRC.

Chris quest’anno affronterà il nuovo trofeo ERC Junior,per lui gare completamente nuove e ci parlerà anche del recente Liepaja nel quale questa serie ha debuttato.

1. Come nasce la passione delle rallycar ad un giovanissimo come te?

“Mio padre per correre nei rally nel Regno Unito ha usato una Ford Focus WRC ex Colin McRae , da quando ho partecipato al mio primo rally, da spettatore ,mi ha conquistato!”

2. Debutti a 16 anni. Come è stato il tuo “battesimo” nei rally e in generale la tua prima stagione (2011)?

“In Inghilterra siamo fortunati ad avere un campionato juniores per i conducenti di età compresa tra 14-17 anni.
E’ possibile competere con auto da 1.0 di cilindrata e ottenere una grande esperienza confrontandosi con altri giovani piloti, prima ancora di ottenere una patente di guida su strada!”

3. Nel 2012 un programma con Renault con un finale “Internazionale” al Rallye du Var. Raccontaci del tuo 2012, è andato tutto secondo programma?

“Ho vinto questo premio (gara al Var) grazie alla vittoria del Trofeo Twingo Regno Unito … un’esperienza incredibile per utilizzare la Renault Clio R3 in uno straordinario rally francese.
Il 2012 è stato il mio vero debutto rallystico avendo solo 17 anni! Ho avuto alcuni alti e bassi, vittorie e incidenti , ma è stata una stagione indimenticabile , coronata con la vittoria del Young Driver of the Year britannico”

4. Nel 2013 debutti in gare europee (Ypres) e il mondiale wrc ,nel tuo paese, nonostante la giovane età vinci il trofeo Twingo UK e vinci la classe al Wales Rally.Chris ora si fa conoscere?

“Sono stato davvero molto fortunato a competere in gare ERC e il debutto nel WRC , sono state esperienze incredibili.
Ho anche fatto il Rallye Mont-Blanc , che è stato il mio rally preferito, come strade,è stato il migliore asfalto Europeo”.

5. Finalmente è iniziata la stagione 2014 e come gli anni scorsi il programma diventa sempre più impegnativo. Quest’anno hai il campionato ERC Junior,avversari esperti,come hai intenzione di interpretare questo trofeo? Attaccherai per vincere o è meglio accumulare esperienza in gare nuove?

“Ho una certa esperienza sul Circuito d’Irlanda e Ypres , li potrò spingere per la vittoria o il podio.
Penso che sarà molto difficile per gli altri rally con tanti avversari fantastici e più esperti , quindi cercherò di ottenere un sacco d’esperienza e vedremo cosa succede!”

6.Cosa ti ha spinto a scegliere il campionato ERC junior ?

“La copertura di Eurosport è fantastica e importante per un giovane pilota per attirare gli sponsor. Il campionato e le gare sono ovviamente di prima classe”

7. Rally Liepaja. Come è andata?

“Era il mio primo rally invernale e con solo 3 km di test su pneumatici chiodati è stato molto difficile.
Dopo aver patito una foratura e problemi ai freni. Arrivare quinto all’ultima speciale è un risultato positivo da portare via!”

8. Il tuo sogno nel cassetto?

“Rally è quello che vivo e respiro,do sempre il 100% per fare il meglio che posso!”

9. Che tipo di superficie prediligi ? Perchè ?

“Amo tutte le superfici, ma penso di più su ghiaia e asfalto scivoloso a causa dell’ Inghilterra, essendo molto piovoso!”

10.Allenamento. Fai qualcosa di specifico ?

“Provo a fare un sacco di esercizi per la parte superiore del corpo e corsa, importanti per avere le spalle forti e braccia per i rally!”

11. Test con la vettura,sei molto giovane,accetti ancora consigli hai qualcuno che ti segue e ti aiuta?

“Mio padre mi dà un sacco di consigli, ma sto cercando di trovare un mentore per il futuro .. come tutti i piloti giovani WRC sono stati fortunati ad avere il supporto di grandi piloti, come ad esempio Meeke con McRae, Ogier con Loeb e Neuville con Bugalski”

1. As the passion of rallycar at a young age as you?

“My father used to compete on UK rallies in an ex. McRae Focus WRC, ever since i attended my first rally i was hooked!”

2. Debuts at age 16. How was your “baptism” in the rally and in general your first season (2011)?

“In England we are lucky to have a junior championship for drivers aged 14-17.
It is possible to compete in 1 litre cars to get great experience against other young drivers before even getting a road driving license!”

3. In 2012, a serious program with Renault with a final “International” in the Rallye du Var. Tell us about your 2012, everything went according to plan?

“I won this prize drive from winning the UK Twingo Trophy… an incredible experience to use the works Clio R3 on such an incredible French rally.
2012 was my debut rally season aged just 17! I had some ups and downs, wins and crashes but It was a memorable season, topped off by winning the UK Young Driver of the Year”

4. In 2013 debuts in European competitions (Ypres) and the world wrc in your country, despite his young age twingo UK win the trophy and win the class in Wales Rally. Chris now you know?

“I was very lucky to compete on my ERC and WRC debuts, they were incredible experiences.
I also did Rallye Mont-Blanc, which was possibly my favorite rally yet, as the roads were possibly the best in asphalt in Europe”

5. Finally started the 2014 season and as in previous years the program becomes more and more challenging. This year you have the ERC Junior Championship, experienced opponents, how are you going to interpret this trophy? You attack to win or is it better to gain experience in new races?

“I have some experience on the Circuit of Ireland and Ypres rounds, so I will push for wins or podiums there.
I think It will be very difficult on the other rallies with such fantastic and more experienced opposition, so I will try to get lots of experience and we will see what happens!”

6.What made you decide to choose to the ERC junior championship?

“The Eurosport coverage is fantastic and important for a young driver to help attract sponsors. The competition and events are obviously first class as well”

7. Rally Liepaja. How did it go?

“It was my first ever winter rally, and with only 3kms testing on studded tyres it was very difficult.
After suffering a puncture and brake problems I was 5th fastest on the final stage which is a nice positive to take away!”

8. Your dream?

“Rallying is what i live and breathe for, I always give 100% to do the best I can!”

9. What kind of surface do you prefer? Why?

“I love all surfaces, but I think I am best on gravel and slippy tarmac due to England being very rainy!!!”

10.Training. Make something specific ?

“I try to do a lot of upper body exercises and running, important to have strong shoulders and arms in rally!”

11.Testing with the car, you are very young, still accept advice do you have someone who follows you and helps you?

“My father gives me lots of advice, but I am trying to find a mentor for the future.. as all young WRC drivers have been lucky to have support off great drivers; such as Meeke with McRae, Ogier with Loeb and Neuville with Bugalski”
