L’intervista a Wagemans protagonista del TER 2019

Per due anni è stato il vincitore del TER2, grazie a questi risultati si è conquistato due gare con vettura R5, che utilizzerà entrambe quest’anno. Si tratta del belga Joachim Wagemans, classe 1994, che lo scorso anno ha debuttato sulla Peugeot 208 R5 è stato proprio il belga a contendere a Giandomenico Basso il titolo TER assoluto, con il “Giando” obbligato alla trasferta svizzera per ipotecare la vittoria. Lo abbiamo intervistato per scoprire i suoi propositi nella nuova stagione, per lui molte ed interessanti novità in un campionato che Rally.it seguirà come le passate edizioni, ma studiando il calendario potremmo regalarvi delle sorprese.

Vi proponiamo la nostra intervista Italiano/Inglese a Joachim:

La tua squadra ha acquistato la Peugeot 208 R5 con la quale correrai. Come avviene la scelta di questa macchina e cosa pensi avendola già utilizzata?
“Sì, abbiamo comprato l’anno scorso la Peugeot R5 T16, non è stato facile trovarne una buona ma la nostra è veramente in ordine e ben fatta, questa scelta dipendeva molto dal prezzo e dai prezzi delle parti. Le nuove R5 sono molto più costose e per il mio primo anno a questo livello sarà una buona scelta. Prima abbiamo avuto una Peugeot 208 R2 e ci piace anche l’aspetto di questa macchina! è una bellezza … ma sì, la cosa principale, il prezzo perché non abbiamo davvero sponsor che ci aiutano con il budget nella mia carriera da rally”.

Per aver vinto il TER Junior (2017 e 2018) utilizzerai i due premi. Che gare farai e con quale macchina?
“Valli Cuneesi e Transilvania Rally, entrambi con una Skoda Fabia R5! È fantastico per noi. anche per il nostro team è perfetto, ci dà tempo in questa stagione per preparare la nostra auto ogni volta e si adatta bene al nostro programma. Un prezzo incredibile”.

Oramai sei un pilota del Tour European Rally cosa pensi di questo campionato?
“Mi piace! Fanno un buon lavoro e hanno dei begli eventi in questo campionato. Spero che più piloti arriveranno e gareggeranno quest’anno, sarà così più importante. È bello lavorare con loro e ora ho una buona conoscenza di alcuni rally”.

Obiettivi per questo 2019? Altre gare oltre al TER?
“Il primo obiettivo è quello di imparare di più nella categoria R5 e di essere davvero veloce con essa. Sarà importante fare molti chilometri senza fare enormi errori. Faccio alcuni eventi anche in Belgio. Alcuni famosi come l’Ypres Rally ed il Condroz. Il mio rally preferito è Madeira che festeggerà la 60° edizione. Vorrei davvero esserci anch’io quest’anno”.

Che consigli ti senti di dare ad un ragazzo per distinguersi nei Rally?
“Tutto quello che ho deciso durante la mia carriera è stato fare veri rally, mi piace lo sport e per vero rally intendo; passare solo due volte sulle prove nelle ricognizioni e poi in prova speciale con la macchina da gara. Se hai la possibilità di farlo in Europa, su superfici diverse, è ancora meglio”.

Nel campionato TER, cambieresti qualcosa?
“Non cambierei grandi cose, è nuovo, e dunque ha bisogno di crescere. Quindi hanno bisogno di più piloti in modo che il campionato sia entusiasmante da vedere e si crei una vera competizione”

Rally Valli Cuneesi, Rallye Antibes Costa Azzurra, Rallye de Ferrol, Rally Omloop van Vlaanderen, Transilvania Rally, Rallye International du Valais, che tipo di competizione preferisci?
“Alcuni saranno nuovi per me! Farò il campionato per scoprirlo. Non vedo l’ora di fare le ultime due gare. La Transilvania è interessante e veloce, il Vallese è un’icona in questo sport”.

Il Rally Valli cuneesi è una gara molto bella e difficile. Conosci la gara? Sarai in lotta o penserai di più in ottica campionato?
“Ad essere onesto non conosco la gara, ma è in Italia che mi piace così tanto, sono sicuro che sarà bello guidare in questa gara. Sarà la mia prima volta con la Skoda Fabia R5. Faremo del nostro meglio, questa è una grande opportunità per me e Francois. Non penserò davvero al campionato in quel momento”.

Pronti a correre l’ Herock Spa Rally, con quali obiettivi?
“Correremo quella gara per avere un po’ di ritmo, la mia ultima gara è stata rally du Valais. Questo è stato 5 mesi fa, 200 km contro il cronometro sono più che benvenuti ora! Non sarà facile con le condizioni meteorologiche ed è la prima volta che guido in quella manifestazione, quindi non ho grandi ambizioni, la Peugeot non è anche la migliore vettura per le strade belghe. Vediamo cosa possiamo fare, prevediamo pioggia per tutto il weekend”

…e finalmente dicci qualcosa in italiano?
“Ho visitato Modena 3 settimane fa e così anche la Ferrari ed altri marchi d’auto in quella zona. Fantastico!”.

ENGLISH VERSION

Your team has bought the Peugeot 208 R5 with which you will compete. Why did you chose  this car and what do you think about it?
“Yes, we bought last year the Peugeot R5 T16, it was not easy to find a good one but ours is a really clean one and well made, this choice depended of course  a lot on the price and the prices of the parts. The newest R5’s are so much more expensive and for my first year on this level it will be a good one. Before we had a Peugeot R2 and we like also the looks of this car! it’s a beauty… but yeah main thing, the price because we have not really sponsors who help us with the budget of my rally career”.

Being the TER Junior winner (2017 and 2018) you will use the two prize contests. What races will you do and with what car?
“Valli Cuneesi and Transilvania Rally, both with a Skoda Fabia R5! Its fantastic for us. also for our team its perfect, it give us time this season to prepare our own car everytime. it fits good in our program. An amazing price”

By now you are a driver of the Tour European Rally what do you think of this championship?
“I like it! They do a good work and have nice events in this championship. I hope more drivers will come and compete this year, that will be so important. Its nice to work with them and i have now a good knowedge of some rally’s”

Goals for this 2019? Other races besides the TER?
“First goal is to learn more in the R5 and be really fast with it. It will be important to do a lot of kilometers without huge mistakes. I do a few events in Belgium as well. The famous ones like ypres rally and Condroz. My favourite rally, Madeira have a celebration year (60° anniversary n.d.r.). i really want to be part of that too”

What kind of races do you recommend to a young boy who wants to make rally career?
“Everything i have decided now in my career was real rally, i like the sport and i mean with real rally; just two times passing on recce and then the stage with the rally car. If you have the chance to do it across europe on different surfaces is even better”

Would you change anything in the TER championship ?
“Not really big things, offcourse it is new and needs to grow. So they need more drivers so that the championship is exiting to see and a real competition”

Rally Valli Cuneesi, Rallye Antibes Cote d’Azur, Rallye de Ferrol, Rally Omloop van Vlaanderen, Transilvania Rally, Rallye International du Valais , what kind of competition do you prefer?
“A few are new for me to! I am exited about it to discover them. i look really forward to do the last two events. Transilvania is interesting and fast, Valais is an icon in this sport”

The Rally Valli cuneesi is a very beautiful and difficult race. Do you know the race? Will you throw yourself into the fight or do you think more about the championship?
“Not really to be honest, but its in Italy, i like that country so much so i am sure it will be beautifull to drive that race.It will be my first time with the Skoda. We will do our best we can, this is a great opportunity for me and Francois. Not really thinking about the championship on that moment”

Soon you will run the Herock Spa Rally, which goals?
“We drive there to have some rhythm, my last race was rally du Valais. That was 5 months ago, 200 km against the clock are more than welcome now!It will be not easy with the weather conditions and it is the first time i drive that rally so no big ambitions, The Peugeot is also not best performing car on Belgian roads. Lets see what we can do, we expect rain all weekend long”

… and finally tell us something in Italian.
