Per la serie “Le interviste da rally” abbiamo avuto il piacere di intervistare il campione tedesco 2012, Mark Wallenwein. Mark ci ha raccontato da dove nasce la sua passione, le sue ambizioni e i suoi sogni.

Intervista in Italiano

1. Dove nasce la passione per i Rally?

“Ho una famiglia di pazzi che segue i rally da 40 anni.Fin da ragazzino andavo a vedere le gare di conseguenza e’ diventato ovvio fare i rally”.

2. Chi era il tuo idolo?

“Non ho mai avuto un vero idolo. Il mio sogno e’ sempre stato di guidare forte in un campionato competitivo”.

3. La tua stagione 2013,alti e bassi?

“Il 2013 non e’ stato un buon anno per noi.Bene fino alla vittoria del rally di Lussemburgo nel campionato tedesco.Il Rally Azzore e’ stato “positivo” solamente come esperienza pazzesca (NdR condizioni meteo impossibili). Chiaramente giu’ il Rally Deutschland WRC.Avevamo grandi progetti ma problemi tecnici non ci han permesso un buon lavoro in quel fine settimana”

4. Le gare che preferisci?

“Direi Germania e Finlandia”

5. Berlandy nuovo campione tedesco,ti e’ dispiaciuto non difendere il titolo?

“Non era nei piani difenderlo,comunque sappiamo di poter battere Georg,come si puo’ vedere confrontando i tempi del Deutschland WRC.E ‘stato molto triste che il mio amico e team-cliente Dirk Riebensahm non ha potuto vincere il titolo dopo aver avuto un incidente prima dell’ultimo rally”.

6. La germania e’ alla ricerca del nuovo Rohrl,con VW nel WRC e altre in attesa (Opel) i piloti tedeschi vedono opportunita’ ?

“Non credo che ci sia un pilota pronto a diventare campione del Mondo in Germania al momento. Quello che ci serve in Germania è qualcosa di simile Rally Jeunes in Francia. Ma al momento non c’e’ niente di simile, dunque devo organizzarmi da solo”.

7. La federazione tedesca ti ha aiutato?

“Ho ricevuto aiuto da ADAC e Stiftung ADAC Sport per 3 anni.E’ stato un importante supporto ma non abbastanza per passare ad un livello Internazionale”

8. Cosa consiglieresti ad un giovane che vuole iniziare la carriera rallystica?

“Innanzitutto sarebbe importante avere piu’ conoscenze possibili.E se si ottiene il denaro da qualche parte lavorare sodo per questo”.

9. Orientamento: asfalto o sterrato.Perche’?

“Amo lo sterrato perche’ mi piace “giocare” con la macchina ma penso di essere piu’ veloce sull’asfalto”.

10. Preparazione per migliorare le prestazioni: Cosa fai per il corpo e la mente? In auto test per migliorare?

“Nel corso di una settimana due sedute di corsa e una di fitness”

11. La miglior vettura usata?

“Skoda Fabia S2000, Mini WRC”

12. All’interno di rally qual’e ‘il migliore amico e l’avversario piu’ combattivo che hai trovato?

“Il mio navigatore e’ il mio miglio amico.Condividiamo molte cose in macchina.Ho buoni amici nei rally, ma io non voglio parlare di persone speciali”.

13. Cosa ne pensi dei rally attuali? cosa miglioreresti?

“Vorrei usare gomme da terra su tutte le superfici cosi e’ più divertente per tutti, piloti, appassionati e televisione”.

14. siamo curiosi,programmi 2014,quali sono le tue aspettative?

“Il programma non e’ ancora stabilito,stiamo lavorando a poche cose ma molto entusiasmanti”.

15. Sogni da realizzare?

“Il sogno e’ di guidare al Deutschland Rally su una vettura WRC”

16. Adac Deutschland Rally,cos’e’ per te e come e’ andata quest’anno?

“Questo Rally e’ davvero speciale perche’ e’ la gara WRC di casa.Ho avuto una buona esperienza nel 2012 vincendo entrambe le gare del campionato tedesco.Nel 2013 piuttosto male abbiamo dovuto abbandonare per problemi tecnici”.

1. Where does your passion for rally come from?

I have a crazy family who is rallying for more than 40 years. As a small boy I already visited rallies so it was obvious that I want to do rallies.

2. Who was your idol?

I did´t have a real idol. It was just allways my dream to drive in as high championship as possible.

3. Rate your 2013 season, ups and downs?

2013 was not a good year for us. Cleary Up was our win in Rallye Luxemburg in German Championship, also Rally Azores was an Up as it was just a crazy experience. Clearly down was Rally Germany. We had big plans but the tecnic just didn´t want to work in that week.

4. Your favorite race?

I would say: WRC Rallye Germany, WRC Rally Finnland

5. Berlandy is the new German champion, are you disappointed to not being able to defend the title?

It was not the plan to defend it, anyway we know we are always able to beat Georg as you could see comparing the times in WRC Germany. It was quite sad that my friend and team-customer Dirk Riebensahm could not take the title after a crash shortly before the last rally.

6. Germany is in search of new Rohrl. With the enter of VW in the WRC and other brand waiting to enter  ( Opel ) are German drivers see more opportunities?

I don´t think there is a World Champion driver in Germany right now. What we need in Germany is something like Rally Jeunes in France. But there is nothing like that at the moment, so I think have to organize myself.

7. The German federation has helped you?

I got help from ADAC and ADAC Stiftung Sport for 3 years. It was quite an important support but not enough to step up to international level.

8. What’s your advice to young people that wants to starts with rally?

It is important to make as many contact as possible. And If you get money from somewhere work hard for it.

9. What do you prefer more: gravel or tarmac? Why?

I love gravel because I love when it is possible to play with the car- but still I am faster on Tarmac I think.

10. What’s your training to improve performance? What do you do for mind and body? 

2 times running, 1 time fitness a week.

11. What’s the best used car ?

Skoda Fabia S2000, Mini WRC

12. Within rallying what ‘s the best friend and the opponent more’ combative that you are getting?

My Co-Driver is like my best friend. We share many things in the car. Otherwise I made good friends in rallying but I don’t ant to mention a special person.

13. What do you think of the current rally? What would you improve?

I would use gravel tyres on all surfaces J More fun for everyone, drivers, fans and television.

14. We are curious, what is the program for 2014? What are your expectation?

Program is not fixed yet, we are working on few exciting things.

15 . What is your dream?

There is a dream to drive WRC Germany in a World Rally Car,

16. What does it mean ADAC Rallye Deutschland for you and how did it go this year?

This rally is very special because it’s the home WRC Rally. I had good experience in 2012 winning both rounds of German Championship. 2013 was quite bad as we had to retire technical.
